Every person has a weakness and I have always had a weakness for Rice Krispies treats. There is something so yummy about the sweet marshmallow crunchiness, that melts the hearts of kids of all ages.
This is a fun and easy treat that you can make with your children. In fact, older people will need the younger ones to stir the gooey mixture.
Get a large saucepan. Add the marshmallows and butter, and heat on medium until everything is melted. You will need to stir in order to keep the bottom and edges from burning. If you don’t want to use marshmallows, then you can also use a can of marshmallow cream.
I say one package or one can, but it is really up to you. If you like gooey treats, then add more; if not, then keep to one package. You can always compensate by adding more Rice Krispies later. I also like to add a teaspoon or two of vanilla extract to the marshmallows, because it adds a little extra flavor.
Once the marshmallows and butter are melted, it’s time for the hard labor. Slowly add the regular Rice Krispies, stirring as you pour. Once again, you can add as much or as little as you want depending on taste, but six cups is the average.
Now you should have a mass of gooey goodness. If this was your standard Rice Krispies treat, then you would simply add the mix to a container and wait for it to cool before tearing into like a starving, rabid animal. Since we are making a special treat, this is only the first part.
Let the mixture cool for a while until you are able to handle it comfortably, but it is still warm and malleable. You and your children can dip your hands in butter and grab a hunk of goo. Shape them into turkey drumsticks or any shape that comes to mind.
Grab the peanut butter and cover the “meaty” part of the drumstick with peanut butter and thin roll it in the Cocoa Rice Krispies. What you get is a tasty chocolate, peanut buttery, marshmallow treat that is awesome for the holidays!
