Do not fear, summer is not over yet! August in Ontario hasn't exactly been the ideal summer weather, but we're not giving up hope -- camping season is still in full force! Camping with children can be difficult but if you plan in advance it can be one of the best family vacations you could ever dream of. Here are a few ideas that will make your family camping trip super fun:
Scavenger hunt
A camping scavenger hunt can be both fun and educational. Pick items from nature that your children might not be familiar with and teach them a few things about each item on the list. Different types of trees and plants are great starting points.
Explore the Night Sky
Lay down on the ground, look up at the sky and teach your children all about what's out there with the help of this great app. They'll learn about the planets, and the stars and hey, you might even learn a thing or two as well!
Scat and Tracks
Identifying animal tracks and "scat" can be both fun AND educational too. This website What Animal is It? will help identify many animal's tracks and learn a whole bunch about them in the process. You might even be able to track them down and find them in their natural habitat! It's important to teach your kids not to disrupt them and the importance of preserving nature. This is the perfect opportunity to do so!
