Trying to do March Break on the cheap? There are lots of ways you can stay in the comfort of your own home, but make things feel like an adventure and a memorable week for the whole family. It will be fun, unforgettable, but most importantly, educational. Here are our ideas to make this coming March Break one of your best ever:
Fort Party
Pick a room to turn into the fort room for the week. Whether it's a bedroom or the living room, camping out in this epic fort is something so easy for parents yet so awesome for kids. Get all the pillows and blankets from the house and go crazy decorating! This will come in handy for housing some of our other activities for the week.
Cooking Lessons
Think back to when you were your childrens' age and what cooking skills you knew then. Spend a few hours getting your little ones up to speed. Whether it's having them help you measure, to teaching them chopping safety skills, there's no better time to learn how to cook. These skills will come in handy for the rest of their lives.
Pool Party!
Ok, so this idea involves leaving the house and heading to your nearest hotel with a pool. Quite often you can pay a daily rate, and even a family rate to enter the pool area. You can stay as long as you want and splash around in the late winter.
Family Breakfast
Dress your own pancakes or waffles! This will surely be a hit with moms, dads, daughters, sons, cousins, in-laws, neighbours, etc. Get some chocolate chips, sprinkles, fruit and indulge. It's March Break!
Games Night
This is where that fort you made earlier in the week can come in handy once again. Set up camp and play some board games. Everyone can take turns picking a game.
Science Day
This activity is probably best served OUTSIDE of your cushy pillow fort, but it's still heaps of fun. You'll want to look into some science projects for different age groups depending how old your kids are, but have a lineup of supplies so you can spend a full day learning and getting a little messy.
Movie Night
Pick 3 movies and vote on which one you're going to watch as a family. Movie is to be watched in fort, obviously.
Plant Some Seeds
It's the perfect time of year to start growing some vegetables from seed. Your kids will learn a lot about the gardening process and they'll be able to get their hands dirty, which they are going to love.
Taco Night
DIY taco night is always a hit in our household on March Break. Have the kids put their own toppings on their shells and again, get a little messy. Do you see a theme here?
Building Party
Gather all of the blocks in your house and build an epic village. The kids will be seriously impressed with the moms & dads building skills that they so rarely get to see. Once you've used every last block, let the little ones smash through the town like Godzilla. We promise, they're going to have a great time spending time playing with their parents.
No matter what you end up doing, we hope you have a great March Break with the family!
